FAQ’s

FAQs About Bulk Materials for Golf Courses

How much does delivery cost?

Delivery prices depend on the distance from the pick-up location of the material to your delivery point. Please note that some products are priced per cubic yard, and others are priced per ton.

Are there minimum delivery amounts?

Yes. Delivery minimums are 4 cubic yards for soils and 4 tons for bulk stone and sand products.

Should I order by the ton or yard?

For soil products, ordering by the cubic yard is the best way to ensure you get the same volume of material regardless of its weight, which can vary depending on its moisture content. One cubic yard covers 108 sq. ft. to a depth of 3 in.

Materials like sand, crushed stone, or aggregate are typically sold by weight. One ton of most bulk products will cover 80 sq. ft. to a depth of 3 in.

Which sand is best for bunkers?

Bunkers need to retain their slope and shape against wind and rain, foot traffic, and golf ball impacts. Washed silica sand with angular grains is a recommended choice because it encourages interlocking to maintain the bunker’s shape and encourage drainage.

What types of soil will build healthy and resilient grass for my course?

Fairway and rough sections of the course do best with local soil that is regularly topdressed with sand and compost, which improves drainage and resists compaction. Putting greens and other close-cut areas are often prepared with a base of gravel or crushed limestone, topped with a soil mix that is very high in root-zone or silica sand, and smaller amounts of compost and peat moss.

Championship Blend is an ultrafine compost. Why does that matter?

Ultrafine compost is highly processed so particles are similar to the size of coffee grounds or coarse sand. That means it incorporates into the soil more easily, breaking up clay and improving drainage in heavy soil. It also exhibits better cation exchange capacity, which means it helps the soil retain and release nutrients slowly over time. The result is more resilient turf, better drainage, and faster growth and recovery.

How can I minimize erosion on slopes and around water hazards?

Vegetation choices, especially water-resistant turf and plants with deep roots, help keep soil and sand in place. Building in a reliable drainage system with slopes, crushed limestone, and soil separation fabric helps direct water correctly. Regularly aerating, slicing, or spiking turf around water hazards also encourages proper drainage instead of erosion.

Where is Minick Materials located?

We have five locations in the greater Oklahoma City area: Oklahoma City, Edmond, Norman, Yukon, and Nicoma Park/Choctaw. Minick also has a dedicated production facility in Yukon, OK.
